Day one in Chiang Rai and we decided it was time for us to try a traditional Thai massage. I was a little nervous as I had heard how they could be a bit painful but the lady in the salon insisted we tried one. First off we had a lime foot bath which was a nice touch and then we got changed into out Thai massage outfit. I know I look like I’m about to be admitted to hospital or perform surgery haha.

Afterwards we had a fruit tea and a piece of dragon fruit. Im not going to lie it was like no other massage I had before. It involved a lot of stretching which was nearly painful but the woman seemed to tell when enough was enough. (I imagine my face gave it away) I think I may stick to my normal oil massage next time but it was great to say we have tried Balinese, Laos and Thai massage.

In the evening we wandered around the night markets which where huge and almost like a maze. These markets were a good mix of traditional gifts and local market stalls. I managed to get some nail glue, very unexciting I know, but I could have brought so many souvenirs from there if I had the space in my case. We also watched the clock light show which was pretty cute.

The next day we headed to the white temple. Hands down the most beautiful temple we have seen on this trip. This will also be the last temple we visit so it was nice that we got to see such an amazing one last. We definitely saved the best till last.

The bridge going into the temple had amazing hand sculptures which were so interesting. I particularly liked the one with painted nails! The attention to detail here was immense and I could have walked around for hours taking in every tiny detail.

You couldn’t take photos inside but there was a buddha style mural with all modern characters hidden inside the scenery. Im talking iron man, Pokemon, spider man, monsters inc, toy story and many more.

The grounds around the temple were just as amazing, can you believe this gold building was the bathroom?

It was only a short stop in Chiang Rai before we got onto the bus back to Bangkok and then flying to Europe. First stop will be Frankfurt.. See you there!
